The goal of the Models of Care project is to develop and implement culturally responsive healthcare service pathways for Indigenous People (children, youth and families) with Indigenous and non-Indigenous healthcare providers in the Districts of Nipissing and Parry Sound. The project will also provide sector-wide Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) training for non-Indigenous healthcare agencies, build capacity, and engage with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community to determine the lived experiences of Indigenous people (children, youth, and families) accessing healthcare services (past, present, and future) and how healthcare service providers have and will work towards ensuring cultural safe pathways are implemented and sustained within own agencies moving forward.
The objective of the Models of Care project is to enhance access to services and improve the quality of healthcare services for Indigenous people (children, youth, and families) while also strengthening relationships, partnerships, and communication between Indigenous and non-Indigenous service providers. This in turn, will increase understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and the impacts of Colonialism on Indigenous health and wellbeing among service providers to build the capacity of agencies and frontline providers to offer timely, accessible, culturally appropriate, and trauma-informed healthcare to Indigenous people (children, youth, and families) in a good way.
